When gold was found in California in January of 1848, over 300,000 men, women, children, and outlaws packed up and moved to the western shores to find their fortues. As the population grew in California, so did crime rates. In fact, a 49'er couldn't expect to survive without some means of packing iron. Military holsters with their flaps were too cumbersome and slow to draw in a pinch...and so was born the 49'er or Slim Jim style Holster.
Designed to be form fitted around the pistol, the Slim Jim stlye holster would keep your pistol in place without needing a strap or flap to keep your hogleg secure. True to form is Magnolia Leather Works "Gold Rush" series of holsters.
These holsters can be designed to fit almost any "cowboy action" pistol including Colt SAA and clones, Colt 1851 and 1860 Black Powder Pistols, 1858 Remington, and more. Prices start at $65 for a holster with a border stamping. Full carving / tooling adds $20. The pics below are fully carved at the $85 price point.
